AJ Yawn
VP, GRC Engineering, Compyl
AJ Yawn is the Vice President of GRC Engineering at COMPYL, where he is focused on modernizing governance, risk, and compliance through engineering-driven design and applied AI. His unconventional career path includes being a former Division I athlete at Florida State University, a U.S. Army Captain, a cybersecurity entrepreneur, and a compliance leader for some of the world’s largest technology companies. After launching a cybersecurity software company during the global pandemic, AJ developed a culture-first approach to building scalable, human-centered compliance solutions—an experience that continues to shape his leadership and vision for the future of GRC. Today, AJ is passionate about redefining compliance beyond checklists, emphasizing efficiency, trust, and intelligent systems that support both auditors and organizations. He is a LinkedIn Learning instructor with more than 175,000 learners and works with the SANS Institute to help educate the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. Based in Puerto Rico, AJ is actively engaged in the island’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Outside of work, he trains for Ironman competitions, explores Puerto Rico’s beaches with his dog, Mamba, and—upon request—will happily share a memorable story from U.S. Army Airborne School.
